Why We Do It - The Why


We love story and humor and technology and we love solving problems. Connecting people to ideas and ideas to things. Things that change the way we interact with each other. Having the ability to combine these creative elements is at the heart of every story. It’s what gets us out of bed every morning. We like to engage, challenge and inspire something new to the world and focus your attention on what truly matters.

We believe everyone who has a story or message to share should have access to a platform that allows them to express what it is they wish the world know about them in a meaningful way. Who they are and why the rest of the world should care. We work hard to extract the essence of every story and create an immersive experience for your audience. We know that today’s world is noisy and the only way to get people to remember us is by being very clear with the message we wish to convey.

We love artificial intelligence and technology because they represent the core of human evolution. It's why we left the caves. Why we created art. We have an itch to explore new ways of communication and believe that technology is at the center of all future forms of expression.

We want to stay true to who we are and like to work with companies whose core philosophies align with our own. Transparency and a firm understanding of who you are is the only way to author an authentic story, that we, as well as you will feel proud of. We are not for everyone. How We Do It - The How


Take a deep breath in. Ok, ready? So first, you can start by emailing us. Tell us what it is you’re working on, your vision for the product and why David Fincher wouldn’t return your calls. Just kidding. But do let us know any details that are relevant. Things like budget, time-frame and your vision for your product or service help us bring your project to life. We thrive on words and always get excited about new crazy ideas. What we’re saying is the more you give us, the stronger our mojo becomes.

At Sandbox, we're not your regular in-house video production agency. Actually, we're the exact opposite. We're an out-house video agency. We know. It sounds like nut-house when you say it out loud. But we assure you, we're not nuts. Well, kinda. But we're creatives who are interconnected, tech savvy — very tech savvy — did we say we're tech savvy? and passionate about everything video, artificial intelligence and technology. We use tools like frame.io as part of our post production workflow, which puts us virtually in the same room while editing. We use Slack to communicate with each other in real time because email is sooo yesterday. Just kidding. We love email. Our grandmother uses it. And we use Airtable to keep track of our projects, progress and to see who is working on what at any given time during any stage of creative, production or post.

So even though we operate just like an in-house ad agency in many ways, we're not. And the main reason is it allows us more creative freedom. With so many talented people scattered across the world, our vision was to tap into their skillsets as editors, visual artists, producers, sound designers, cinematographers, etc., but we also wanted access to their unique culture and locations. Imagine not having to book a flight across the world to shoot a scene that’d be perfect for your video. Wouldn't that be cost effective? How about versatile? What about just really bleeping awesome? We thought it would, so we created Sandbox. A creative video agency where we could collaborate in real time, from anywhere in the world, through our favorite medium: technology.

What We Do - Content Strategy


We get to know each other. This is where we have an in depth conversation and you help us understand why your product or service exists, and help you develop the tone, direction and voice for your brand. If you already have one, great. We’ll work with you to make it even better.


This is the failsafe environment where we take your idea apart, test out the best options and work it backwards to make it simple. First, you provide us the raw details about what you're working on and why people should care. This is important because it allows us to understand which problem you’re solving, so we know exactly what to focus on. Our goal is to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and build your brand strategy and video concept around them. Then we break it down into bite size chunks of digestible information to engage your target audience. So being extremely detailed in your description is essential to building the right arc for your story.

What We Do - Creative Direction


Now we’re past the awkward dating phase. We’re all on the same page ready to roll up our sleeves and get creative. It’s at this stage we begin writing scripts, scouting talent and locations in order to create a video ad that represents your brand in the best possible way.


We get together our team of talented Sandboxers, each an expert at their craft. Next, we begin throwing ideas against the board, scriptwriting, making coffee, storyboarding, drinking coffee, casting beings who represent your brand and scout for the best possible locations to shoot. Once we have all the dominoes in place, we get our dollies ready for production. (see also: dollies — a small platform on wheels used for holding heavy objects).


At this point we are caffeinated, scripted, equipped and well prepared. We are ready to meet with our talent at the locations we have scouted and booked in advance to shoot your video ad. It usually starts with a skinny bearded guy who yells “Action!”. Also, there is an average of one hundred takes. We’re kidding. It’s not directed by Stanley Kubrick.


This is the incubation process where we mold (not the dangerous kind) the raw material together using our special creative tools. We cut, trim, edit, add motion graphics, special effects and find the right music in order to create a captivating experience and connect your call to action with your target audience. Then we tweak it, polish it, finesse it and perfect it. Once it’s perfect, we take it from there.

What We Do - Distribution


By now, we shared the video with you and you absolutely loved it! You’re so excited, you can’t wait for everyone else to see it. There’s only one problem. You don’t know how to get it in front of your audience. That’s okay. Deep breath out. We got this.


Well, not quite. Unless you know someone who works for NASA, in which case, great. Could be a nice marketing move and we’d love an introduction! But seriously, once it’s fully baked, we’ll share it with you and help you launch it into the world. We’ll even do research and help you figure out the best social media marketing strategy to build an effective ad campaign.
